I am a 52 yr old professional mariner residing in baldwin county. My wife and I came to the eastern shore in the early 80’s and have made it our home since.
After sailing Mobile bay for awhile , I was offered a job on tugboats herein the harbor in Mobile.
What I really wanted to do was to get a captains Lic. While eating breakfast at a local waffle house, an elderly gentleman ask me about the type boats I had sailed and told me that the maritime industry was really short handed in Mobile and that maybe i should consider looking into working in the tug & barge industry.
I made an appointment the next day for an interview and decided to give it a shot.
That was in 1995 and im happy to say , i have been a professional mariner since that date.
I currentl;y hold a 200 ton Master’s Lic and push barges along the ICW and inland rivers.
