August 2010 NEWS of GRACE

NEW MEMBERS

Ben and Amy Pujol along with their son, Nathan, daughters Rhiannon and Reagan Turmon moved to Gulf Shores from Alpharetta, GA.  They were members of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA, and will remain as Associate Members of that church where they were lifetime members.  The children will be attending Gulf Shores schools.

The girls, along with their mother, have been coming in on Mondays to help with the WELCA LWR projects.  The girls have learned to make up the health and school kits.  Amy is busy tying quilts and the girls are learning also.  Nathan has a good time playing in the playroom.

The girls are involved in being acolytes for the worship services.  They are also interested in joining the many organizations that Gulf Shores offers.

Gulf Shores State Fishing Pier – August 2010

Gulf Shores City Park Beach – August 2010

As you can see from the photos above, there’s still plenty of white sand and room for enjoying the surf at Gulf Shores, AL.  Although some of the news coverage of the BP oil spill has emphasized the worst of it, the impact on the Alabama coast has been more economic than environmental.  Many of our locally owned businesses have suffered due to the massive cancellations of summer visitors, and some of them are not surviving the disaster.  Most of the videos you may have seen were probably from the Louisiana coast, however, the wellhead is about 125 miles from Alabama, which has limited the exposure here.   Mobile Bay was never closed to fishing and now the new fishing pier at Gulf Shores has gone back to their normal 24 hours a day fishing.  We are hoping that the economy will recover and allow folks to enjoy the fall and winter season at the Gulf.
