WHO WE ARE
Grace Lutheran Church started as a mission congregation sponsored by the
Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Pastor
Charles Jolliff began services in 1990 as a lay pastor to provide an ELCA
presence in South Baldwin County. After some deliberation, the Congregation
adopted the name Grace Lutheran in January 1995. Pastor Craig Bowyer was
designated as a Mission Developer in October 1998.
In the past, we have used as many as three worship locations: one in Foley,
Alabama, and two in Gulf Shores. But on Palm Sunday, 2001, our worshiping
communities were married to create one centrally-located church. We began
meeting at the chapel of the Baldwin Funeral Home, three miles north of Gulf
Shores on Hwy 59.
On December 2, 2001, Grace became an organized Congregation of the ELCA (no
longer a Mission Congregation) and called Rev. Craig Bowyer as Pastor.
On January 27, 2003, we relocated "south of the bridge" to the corner of West
23rd Ave. and West 4th St. in Gulf Shores. See Maps and
Driving Directions for this
new worship location.

Rev. Bowyer continued as Pastor until his retirement in March 2008. Rev. Eldon
Thurow who had come to the area to help with construction of Holy Trinity in
Daphne, AL agreed to become the Interim Pastor. His service continued until Rev.
Jim Korzun was called as Pastor in August 2009.
