The Pigott Family Bible was bought in 1837 by Rev. John Ervin Pigott,Sr. (Pigot/Piggot/Pigate) in the Darlington District, S. C. from ElderJames Phillips of the Baptist Order Lockwith Association for $4.00.The names recorded in the Bible were written with blackberry juice,and were badly faded when this copy was made in 1977.
Rev, John Ervin Pigott, Sr. and his wife, Mary E., were both born inS. C., he in 1810 and she in 1816. In the 1840 Census S. C.,Darlington District, frame #034, John E. and Mary E. Piggot are listedwith their children, 1 son and 1 daughter both under the age of fiveyears. In the 1850's they moved with other family members to theMedart area of Wakulla County, Florida. They built the FriendshipBaptist Church there. The land that they farmed belonged previously toHenry Mash, a large plantation owner, for whom John E. Piggot servedas foreman.....
