Note: James Franklin Pigott, M.D., numbered among the skilled and successfulmedical practitioners, Dr. James Franklin Pigott, recently ofGreensburg, has honorably won the prestige he now enjoys both as aprofessional man and good citizen. He was born at Bogalusa, WashingtonParish, Louisiana, May 27, 1864, a son of Nathaniel Pigott.
The Pigott family is one of the old ones of the South, having beenfounded here at the time of colonization of Georgia by thegreat-great-grandfather of Doctor Pigott, an native of England, whocame here an unmarried man. Following his settlement in the GeorgiaColony, he was married to a lady of French decent, and became aplanter with many acres. He and his wife had four children, all sonsand one of them was the great-grandfather of Doctor Pigott.Subsequently members of the family migrated to Mississippi.
Doctor Pigott attended the private and public schools of WashingtonParish, and remained on his father's farm until he reached hismajority. In order to earn the money to carry him through college hefollowed various callings and finally, in 1892 was graduated fromTulane University, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. From thenuntil 1917 he was engaged in a general medical and surgical practiceat Covington, Louisiana, but in the latter year went to Bogalusa, andremained there for four years. In 1921 he began his connection withGreensburg, and here, as elsewhere, he has won appreciation for hisfaithfulness and ability. His offices were in the Sitman Drug StoreBuilding. He owns a comfortable residence at Greensburg, and andequally valuable residential property at Bogalusa. On October 15,1924, he moved to 2557 Verbena Street, New Orleans, where he is nowpracticing. Democrat, he was elected on his party ticket coroner ofSaint Tammany Parish, and held that office for four years. For thesame length of time he was a member of the parish school board, and hehas always been interested in public affairs. He is a member of thestate and national medical associations, and of the SixthCongressional District Medical Society.
On December 15, 1892, Doctor Pigott married, at Picayune, Mississippi,Miss Janie Smith, a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William Smith, both ofwhom are now deceased. He (William Smith) was one of the pioneers toengage in farming in the vicinity of Picayune.
The children born to Doctor and Mrs. Pigott have been as follows:Logan W., who resides at New Orleans, Louisiana, in the creditdepartment of the Interstate banking and Trust Company, a veteran ofthe World War, in which he served in a clerical capacity at Camp Pike,for nine months; Sadie L. who resides at Bogalusa, the wife of J.Harvey rester, bookkeeper in the office of the treasurer of the GreatSouthern Lumber Company; Camille, who resides at Bogalusa, married toOllie W. Knight, a dispatcher in the office of the New Orleans-GreatNorthern Railroad Company; Juanita, who is not married, and is aclerk in the offices of the New Orleans-Great Northern RailroadCompany at Bogalusa; Marguerite, who resides at New Orleans, the wifeof Isidor Marx, who with his father, is engaged in the building supplybusiness; and James Lavelle, who resides at Pine Grove, Louisiana,employed by the Natalbany Lumber Company.
