As with most sourthern families, the Civil War dealt a costly blow tothis family. William A. and 1st. son Milton Jefferson (1845-1865),both memberss of Co. "A", 57th AL Infantry, died as a result of thewar. William A. died at Lee Hospital, in Columbus, Georgia. He isburied in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus along with 500 other Civil WarSoldiers who died in the hospital.

William A. Jones
On Dec. 30, 1933, in Pike County, William A. Jones married ElizabethSimmons. William and Elizabeth are both from families that settled inPike County in the 1830's. William was the son of Seaborn Jones (abt1800-aft 1880) and the grandson of Joseph Jones (abt 1765-1861), bothhaving come to Pike County, from Georgia after spending some time inCovington County, Alabama. Joseph and wife Winnie joined BeulahBaptist Church of Troy in 1835. Joseph, father of 12 known children,was 95 years old when he died. He is likely buried in Beulah ChurchCemetery of Troy.
Elizabeth Simmons was the daughter of Isaac Simmons (1786-1864) andElizabeth Fowler (1790-1857), daughter of John Fowler, a revolutionaryWar Soldier; all were from Columbus County, North Carolina. JohnFowler moved to Pike County about 1837 at the age of 90 (to be nearhis children) and died there about 1844. Isaac Simmons and Elizabethwere in Dallas County, Alabama;, in 1830, but were in Spring Hill areaof Pike County by 1836; they were the parents of 8 known children.Isaac and Elizabeth are buried in a family cemetery on the land theyowned.
William A. and Elizabeth Jones had 4 children before her death ofunknown causes about 1857: Milton Jefferson Jones, James Marion "Jim"Jones, William Allen "Bob" Jones, and Mary Jane Jones. In 1858,William A. Jones married Margaret McLure (1828-1871), daughter ofRichard Rankin McLura, Jr. of the Brundidge Area. William A. andMargaret had one son John Butler Jones (1860-1913). He is buriedthere.

The 2nd. Son, James Marion "Jim" Jones (1846-1910) served with Co."K", 37th, Alabama Infantry. In 1870, he married Mary Ann MiranzaGibson (1849-1920), daughter of William Alfred Cahndler Gibson(1816-1889) and Elizabeth Rebecca Kyser (1819-1887), parents of 16children.
James Marion "Jim" and Mary Ann Jones were the parents of ; WilliamJefferson Jones (1871-1935 married Fannie Stroud), Elizabeth Rebecca"Lizzie" Jones (1875-1968, married Robinson Crusoe "Crude" Flowers),Joseph Allen "Bud" Jones (1882-1957, married Chlora Mixson), andElmira Leona Jones (1889-1976, married John Clemmons Simmons). Jim andMary Ann are buried at White Rock Church along with many other membersof the Gibson and Jones families.
The 3rd. son William Allen "Bob" Jones (1849-1875) married Mahitabel"Hettie Belle" Gibson, sister to Mar Ann Gibson, They were the parentsof 5 children: Dr. Hilary J. Jones (1876-1914, married Hatty McBride),Amanda L. Jones (1877- ), Barbara E. Jones (1879-1972, married FoxGraves), Nealie Elizabeth Jones (1884 1969, married Joe MiltonJackson), and Barney Jones (1889- ),
Daughter Mary Jane Jones was born about 1850 and married John V.Withers in 1871.
William Jefferson "Will" Jones (oldest son of James Marion Jones) andFannie Stroud (1874-1925) were married Aug. 14, 1895 in KaufmanCounty, Texas. Fannie wa sthe daughter of John A. Stroud and MollieRespy Simmons. John A. Stroud's parents were James W. And SarahFrances Stroud. Molly Respy Simmons parents were Bethel Simmons andMary Garves.
Fannie Stroud's moved to Texas before 1890, but Will followed them toTexas, married Fannie, and brought her back to Pike County. Will andFannie were the parents of 6 children: William Alton Jones, (marriedEmma Galenia Hickman), Addie Lee Jones (married James Mason Martin),Felix Weeler Jones (married Ellen Marie Crain), Florence Mable Jones(Wray Swink), Willie Glen Jones (married Claude Franklin Davis), andRobert Ingram Srickland), and James A. Jones (married MargaretElizabeth Reeves), Will Jones later married Bertha Stroud, niece ofFannie Stroud. They lived in Texas and were the parents of 2 or 3children. Will is buried in Pampa, Texas, and Fannie is buried inMarlow. As of 1999, at he age of 86, James A. Jones is the onlysurviving child of will and fannie Jones, James lives south of SpringHill on land that has belonged in his family since the middle 1800's
